National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders have urged Ugandans to consolidate grassroots support for President Yoweri Museveni and the ruling party as the country heads toward the 2026 general elections.
The call was made on Sunday, September 7, during the Buganda Ku Museveni mobilization rally at Kiyunga Muslims Primary School playgrounds in Kyampisi Sub-county, Mukono District.
The event was spearheaded by newly elected NRM Vice Chairperson for Central Region and State Minister for Microfinance, Hon. Haruna Kyeyune Kasolo, alongside Energy Minister Hon. Ruth Nankabirwa.
Hon. Kasolo emphasized that flagship government programs such as Emyooga, the Parish Development Model (PDM), and the Uganda Women Empowerment Programme (UWEP) are transforming livelihoods but require stronger cooperation between citizens and party leaders.
“For these programs to reach every home, every village, and every parish, you must trust and vote for NRM leaders who will work hand in hand with President Museveni to deliver services,” Kasolo told the rally.
As chief guest, Hon. Nankabirwa reassured residents of Mukono about the government’s commitment to extending electricity access in rural areas, pointing to ongoing electrification works in Nagwejje and Seeta-Mpunge. She further cautioned residents against “political opportunists” who mislead voters.
Mukono NRM District Chairperson, Hajji Haruna Ssemakula, highlighted the benefits already received by women in the district, including UGX 1.5 billion under UWEP and UGX 22.63 billion through the PDM. He, however, raised concern over persistent power shortages in Mpunge Sub-county, appealing for urgent government action.
District Publicity Secretary, Mr. Kyeswa Hakim, who recently withdrew from the NRM CEC elections to support Kasolo, faulted opposition leaders for neglecting service delivery.
“People in Mukono did not abandon President Museveni; they were only diverted by small issues. As leaders, we must fix those gaps,” Kyeswa said, urging the electorate to rally behind NRM and reject opposition leaders.
The mobilization drive drew a strong team of NRM leaders and flag bearers, among them Eng. Robert Kafeero Ssekitooleko, Hon. Margret Nakavubu, Hon. Kintu Tadeo, Hon. Ronald Kibuule, Hon. Daisy Sonko, Francis Mukoome Lukooya, Hon. Robert Migadde Ndugwa, Hon. Kirabo Agnes Nantongo, Hon. Dr. Michael Bukenya Yiga, and Hon. Enos Asiimwe.
