Onesmus Twinamasiko, the ruling NRM party candidate for Bugangaizi East, has been remanded to Kibaale prison over allegations that he slapped Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja during the party’s chaotic primaries.
The incident occurred on July 17, 2025, at the NRM offices in Kakumiro District, moments after officials announced the primary election results. Witnesses report that Twinamasiko lost his temper amid the confusion and allegedly struck the Prime Minister in full view of supporters and security personnel.
Magistrate Nazifah Namayanja of Kibaale Court ordered his remand following the allegations, citing the seriousness of the assault.
Twinamasiko has denied all charges. He will remain in custody until September 10, 2025, when his case is scheduled for a bail hearing.
The shocking episode has ignited debates within political circles about discipline and decorum during party primaries, raising questions over security protocols for high-profile officials during election events.
