Man Arrested for Murder of 90-Year-Old Woman

Police in Naggalama Division have arrested a 25-year-old man accused of brutally murdering a 90-year-old woman in Magonga Village, Kiwafu Parish, Kimenyedde Sub-county, Mukono District.
The suspect, identified as Henry Onyango, a peasant farmer, was arrested following the killing of Negesa Christine, who was found dead in her home on the morning of September 20, 2025, around 9:00 am.

According to police, Onyango was allegedly spotted leaving the victim’s house shortly after the incident. Alarmed relatives rushed to the scene, where they discovered Negesa lying in a pool of blood with severe head injuries.

“Police responded promptly, recorded statements from first responders, and later took the suspect back to the crime scene for reconstruction. During this exercise, we recovered a suspected murder weapon—a panga—as well as the suspect’s shoe, which he had dropped while fleeing,” said SSP Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police PRO.

The body of the deceased was transferred to Kayunga Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem examination. Investigators say the suspect later led them to a nearby well where he claimed to have washed the bloodstained panga after the crime.

“Inquiries are ongoing to establish the motive behind this heinous act and to determine whether the suspect had any accomplices,” SSP Onyango added.

Police have condemned the act and assured the public that justice will be pursued for the victim and her family.
