President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has rallied members of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Buganda Parliamentary Caucus to remain firm in defending the legitimate interests of Ugandans, especially those of Buganda, which he described as a direct beneficiary of the NRM revolution.
Meeting the caucus at State House, Entebbe, the President engaged the legislators on key issues affecting service delivery and development in the region and across the country.
“You, the new leaders, need to defend the legitimate interests of the people of Uganda and Buganda because Buganda is the major beneficiary of the NRM revolution and anybody who does not see that is an enemy of Buganda,” Museveni told the MPs.
He said the peace created under the NRM administration has been the foundation for Buganda’s transformation, pointing to roads, industries, and other achievements as proof of the progress registered.
The President applauded the Buganda MPs for mobilizing communities and monitoring government initiatives, but challenged them to now shift greater attention to boosting household incomes.
“Strategically Buganda is the direct beneficiary of NRM so if all the people get involved in creating wealth, Uganda will be the most developed country in the world,” he added.
Museveni cautioned that land fragmentation remains a pressing challenge undermining productivity and sustainable growth in both Buganda and the wider country.
During the session, Hon. Migadde Robert Ndugwa, Chairperson of the caucus and MP for Buvuma County, presented the group’s Memorandum of Understanding.
He praised the President’s leadership and revealed that the MPs have been traversing constituencies to engage communities and assess government programs.
Also present was the NRM Deputy Secretary General, Hon. Rose Namayanja, who thanked President Museveni for his guidance and commended the caucus for its unity and dedication.
She encouraged them to redouble their efforts in serving the people and strengthening the NRM’s presence in Buganda.
