President Museveni while addressing his supporters at Kololo after nomination on Tuesday assured that his government is committed to addressing several key issues affecting Uganda’s development.
“We are going to fight the theft of drugs at health centers,” he declared, emphasizing the need to ensure that healthcare services reach the people as intended. “It is not true that the government cannot provide efficient healthcare.”
He pointed to the success of Uganda’s immunization program, which has seen the country’s population remain free of polio in recent years.
“For example, the immunization program is working very well; that is why I do not see anyone with polio in this generation. These are all children of the NRM,” Museveni added. “If immunization can be successful, then all other efforts can be effective as well.”
The president also revisited an idea he first proposed years ago, aiming to tackle the growing issue of youth unemployment.
He announced plans for a dedicated fund to support university graduates who remain unemployed for two years or more after completing their studies.
“We are going to create a fund specifically for these graduates,” Museveni said, adding that this would provide them with the necessary financial support to jumpstart their careers.
In a passionate plea for public involvement in the fight against corruption, Museveni reminded Ugandans of their power as witnesses to wrongdoing.
“Fighting corruption should involve you, the people, because you are witnesses to the crime.” He encouraged citizens to take proactive steps in tracing public funds, particularly those allocated under government initiatives like the Parish Development Model (PDM).
“For example, you should ask, where is the PDM money that was sent to the parish?” Museveni said. “You can wait for the president to intervene, but since you are nearby, why not take the initiative to help trace this money yourself?”
Museveni’s remarks underscore his ongoing efforts to address the key challenges facing Uganda, with a particular focus on healthcare, youth employment, and the fight against corruption.
