Police in Old Kampala have arrested Nsubuga Isaac, a 30-year-old resident of Lubya, Rubaga Division, for allegedly defacing campaign posters of President Yoweri Museveni.

The arrest followed the circulation of a video on social media, which showed Nsubuga engaged in defacing the posters. The video, which went viral on September 22, prompted swift action from the police.

According to the police, the video was analyzed, and the suspect was promptly identified. A team of officers was dispatched to apprehend him.

Patrick Onyango, the Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, confirmed the arrest, noting that Nsubuga had been caught in possession of some of the defaced posters.

“We acted on the video circulating on social media. The suspect, Nsubuga Isaac, had been seen tearing down the President’s posters in Lubya Parish. When arrested, he was found in possession of some of the defaced posters. Residents also confirmed that he had been going around the area vowing to remove all the posters,” said SSP Onyango.

The local community reported that Nsubuga had removed several posters from the walls, leaving a visible trail of damage.

Nsubuga is facing charges under Section 80 of the Presidential Elections Act, which prohibits the destruction, defacement, or removal of campaign materials.

The law stipulates that anyone found guilty of such actions could face a fine of up to 24 currency points or imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year, or both.

“We urge the public to respect the rule of law and refrain from engaging in acts that disrupt the electoral process. We will continue to ensure the safety of all electoral materials,” added SSP Onyango.

The suspect is currently being held at Old Kampala Police Station, and investigations are ongoing.
