Nateete Police Division has arrested six suspects in connection with the theft and sale of motor vehicle spare parts, particularly oil and fuel filters.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SSP Patrick Onyango said the operation followed intelligence reports that thieves were selling brand-new filters on the black market.
“The initial operation led to the arrest of two suspects, Mumbia Frank and Byesigwa Eddy. Their interrogation revealed other accomplices, leading to the arrest of four more suspects — Ssebina Lawrence from Nateete, Kateregga Frank from Bwaise, Zziwa Muhammed from the City Centre, and Nalongo Dorothy Nabankema from Ndeeba,” SSP Onyango explained.
Police recovered 422 Renken oil filters of different sizes during the operation. The exhibits were documented and are currently stored at Nateete Police Stores.
All six suspects are being held at Nateete Police Station as investigations continue.
SSP Onyango noted that the operations, which covered Sauri Yako, City Centre, Ndeeba, and Bwaise, were part of ongoing efforts to curb the theft and resale of stolen goods in Kampala Metropolitan area.
