The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission has announced Tanga Collins, son of NRM Electoral Commission chairperson Dr. Tanga Odoi, as the new National Chairperson of the NRM Youth League following a heated election.
According to official results released on Thursday, Collins secured 2,185 votes, representing 68% of the total ballots cast. His closest challenger, Brenda Kiconco, trailed with 1,017 votes (32%).
The election, held on Thursday, September 18, was part of the party’s internal process to fill leadership positions in its special organs.
This was the second time the two candidates faced off. In the earlier round of voting on August 28, Collins polled 1,567 votes against Kiconco’s 1,355. However, his declaration as winner then sparked chaos among sections of youth delegates, forcing the Electoral Commission to nullify the outcome.
With the latest results, the NRM Electoral Commission has affirmed Collins as the duly elected leader of the Youth League.
