Vivo Energy, the pan-African marketer of Shell and Engen fuels and lubricants, has unveiled VE-CEM (Continuous Equipment Monitoring), a digital solution poised to revolutionize fleet and equipment management across Africa.
Powered by Digital Twin technology from strategic partner Intangles, VE-CEM is designed to help businesses predict and prevent vehicle breakdowns before they happen.
The solution taps into real-time data from the electronic control unit (ECU) to provide actionable insights on engines, brakes, batteries, alternators, air intake, and more.
It even factors in driver behaviour and its impact on fuel consumption. All insights are delivered via intuitive dashboards, giving fleet managers a 360-degree view of vehicle and equipment health.
VE-CEM is targeted at commercial sectors where equipment uptime is critical, including transport and logistics, mining, construction, and agriculture.
By enabling predictive maintenance, the solution promises to reduce downtime, cut costs, improve fleet availability, and support faster, smarter operational decisions.
“At Vivo Energy, we don’t just fuel industries; we power transformation. With VE-CEM, our customers will be able to predict issues before they happen – slashing costs, boosting productivity, and gaining greater confidence in their operations. This new offer will deliver real value where it matters most: keeping fleets and equipment working reliably, day after day,” said Stan Mittelman, CEO of Vivo Energy.
A Proactive Approach to Fleet Management
Traditional maintenance models often leave businesses reacting to breakdowns rather than preventing them.
VE-CEM flips that approach by embedding intelligence into vehicles and machinery, allowing operators to move from reactive fixes to proactive planning.
The device is compact and easy to install, connecting directly to vehicles and equipment. Once set up, businesses gain instant access to predictive insights through a secure platform accessible on any device.
“Our commercial customers face real pressures: tight margins, high equipment maintenance costs, and rising expectations around safety and sustainability. VE-CEM provides something they have long needed – the ability not just to monitor, but to predict equipment failures and take action before a breakdown ever occurs. That foresight changes the game. It turns maintenance into a strategic advantage, reduces costs, lowers fuel consumption, and improves fleet availability,” said Joanita Mukasa Menya, Managing Director of Vivo Energy Uganda.
Proven Results and Continental Rollout
VE-CEM has already been piloted successfully in Kenya, Senegal, and Zambia, where customers reported detecting potential issues weeks in advance, reducing unplanned downtime, and strengthening operational performance.
Vivo Energy plans to roll out the solution across its commercial operations in Africa, with opportunities for future expansion and collaboration on new digital solutions.
With VE-CEM, Africa’s fleet operators now have the tools to not just monitor their assets, but to anticipate problems, save costs, and keep operations moving efficiently – a clear leap from reactive maintenance to strategic fleet management.
