Beti Kamya Out, Justice Aisha Naluzze In as Uganda’s IGG

President Museveni has appointed Hon. Justice Aisha Naluzze Bataala as the new Inspector General of Government (IGG), taking over from Beti Olive Namisango Kamya, whose four-year tenure ended last month.

The transition was officially communicated by Faruk Kirunda, Special Presidential Assistant, who confirmed that all deputy IGGs would remain in their positions.

“H.E Kaguta Museveni, in exercise of his constitutional powers, has appointed Hon. Justice Aisha Naluzze Bataala as the new Inspector General of Government (IGG), replacing Hon. Beti Olive Namisango Kamya. The Deputy IGGs, Dr. Patricia Achan Okiria and Mrs. Anne Twinomugisha Muhairwe, have been maintained in their roles. The names of the appointees have been forwarded to Parliament for vetting,” Kirunda announced on X.

Justice Naluzze, who has served in multiple judicial capacities, is recognized for her integrity and commitment to upholding judicial ethics.

Her appointment is expected to inject new energy into the Inspectorate’s mandate of investigating, preventing, and curbing corruption across public offices.

Beti Kamya, the first woman to serve as IGG under President Museveni since July 2021, leaves behind a legacy that includes championing lifestyle audits and leading initiatives to recover public funds lost to corruption.

With Justice Naluzze now at the helm, the Inspectorate of Government is set to continue its pivotal role in promoting accountability and transparency within Uganda’s public sector.
