Police have updated the number of fatalities from Tuesday night’s accident on the Kampala-Gulu Highway, confirming 46 deaths.
Initial reports had put the death toll at 63, but authorities explained that several victims previously thought to have died were later found alive but unconscious and receiving treatment.
“The death toll has now been confirmed at 46. Some of the victims initially presumed dead were later found to be alive but unconscious,” a police spokesperson said.
The crash involved a Nile Star bus and multiple other vehicles, leaving a number of passengers injured. Emergency teams remain on the scene, providing medical assistance to those affected.
