The Electoral Commission (EC) has set October 22 and 23, 2025, as the dates for nominating candidates for Members of Parliament representing Special Interest Groups (SIGs).
The nomination exercise will take place at the EC headquarters in Kampala between 9am and 5pm on both days. It will cover representatives for older persons, persons with disabilities, workers, and youths.
Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon, the EC Chairperson, said the Commission is well-prepared for the activity and urged aspiring candidates to follow all nomination rules.
“We call upon all stakeholders in the electoral process to take note of these dates and ensure compliance with the nomination requirements and procedures,” Byabakama said.
He reminded candidates that they must be Ugandan citizens, registered voters, and meet all the requirements listed in the Commission’s nomination guidelines, which are available at the EC offices and on its website.
Byabakama noted that the exercise is in line with Section 8 of the Parliamentary Elections Act, which gives the Commission the mandate to organize elections for special interest representatives.
He said the upcoming nominations are part of ongoing preparations for the 2026 General Elections and reaffirmed the EC’s commitment to holding a “regular, free and fair election.”
Byabakama also appealed to political parties and interest groups to cooperate with the Commission to ensure a smooth and transparent nomination process.
