Head Teacher Nabbed Over Fake UNEB Results for P7 Candidates

Police in Kampala have arrested the Director of Earnest Nursery and Primary School in Kisugu Parish, Makindye Division, over allegations of forging 2020 Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) results for his candidates.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, SSP Patrick Onyango, the suspect, Wafula Ivan, 34, allegedly registered Primary Seven pupils from his school in 2020 and transported them to an unidentified location in Busia District, where they sat for fake examinations purported to be from the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB).

“After the purported PLE, the children were brought back to Kampala and handed over to their parents. When results came back, the director issued fake results to the pupils, complete with recommendations,” Onyango said.

Police investigations reveal that the pupils used the forged results to enroll in various secondary schools. However, the fraud came to light in 2024 when Ebenezer Secondary School, where some of the students were studying, requested them to present original PLE result slips for UCE registration.

“When the students returned to Earnest Nursery and Primary School to get their original results, Wafula failed to produce them. The matter was reported to police, and investigations commenced,” Onyango added.

Police later discovered that the examinations the pupils had taken were not part of the official 2020 PLE and that Nanyuma Primary School, the supposed examination center in Busia, had not registered any candidates from Earnest Nursery and Primary School.

“The forged results and recommendation letters were retrieved and submitted to UNEB for verification, and UNEB confirmed that the documents were fake,” said Onyango.

Wafula, who had been on the run for two years, was arrested on Tuesday after a prolonged manhunt.

“He has been in hiding for the last two years, but our detectives finally tracked him down. Inquiries into the matter are still ongoing,” Onyango stated.
