President Museveni has directed the State House Comptroller to provide Shs 5 million to each family of the deceased and Shs 1 million to those injured in the tragic accident on the Kampala–Gulu Highway earlier today.

He also urged all road users to exercise utmost caution to prevent such tragedies in the future.

“May the souls of the departed rest in eternal peace,” President Museveni said.

The accident which claimed 46 lives on Tuesday night took place at Asili Farm in Kitaleba village, Kiryandongo District, and involved an Isuzu bus (registration UAM 045V) operated by Planet Company, a Nile Star bus (registration UBF 614X), a Toyota Land Cruiser (registration CGO 5132AB 07), and a Tata lorry (registration UBK 647C).

Preliminary reports indicate that around midnight, the Nile Star bus traveling from Kampala to Arua attempted to overtake a Tata lorry, while another bus from Adjumani to Kampala was overtaking the Land Cruiser at the same time, leading to the deadly collision.
