President Museveni has appointed Mr. Lino Anguzu as the new Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), subject to parliamentary approval.
Mr. Anguzu, who currently serves as Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions and Head of the International Crimes Department in the Office of the DPP, succeeds Justice Jane Frances Abodo. Justice Abodo was earlier this month appointed Principal Judge, creating a vacancy at the helm of the prosecution body.
Known for his professionalism and depth of experience, Mr. Anguzu has been a central figure in Uganda’s efforts to prosecute complex and cross-border crimes. His department has handled major cases involving terrorism, war crimes, and human trafficking, earning him recognition within both local and international justice circles.
The Office of the DPP confirmed that President Museveni has formally forwarded Mr. Anguzu’s name to Parliament for vetting, in accordance with Article 120 of the Constitution. Once approved, he will assume leadership of an institution critical to the enforcement of criminal justice in the country.
Legal experts and justice sector observers have welcomed the appointment, describing Mr. Anguzu as a “meticulous and reform-minded” prosecutor who understands the operational challenges of the institution he is set to lead.
If confirmed, Mr. Anguzu will be expected to continue ongoing reforms aimed at improving prosecution-led investigations, enhancing coordination with the police and other agencies, and ensuring faster handling of criminal cases.
The appointment reflects government’s commitment to maintaining stability and professionalism within the country’s justice system.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
