The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has announced changes to its presidential campaign itinerary, postponing three scheduled rallies in the Lango sub-region due to President Yoweri Museveni’s official state engagements.
According to a statement released on Sunday evening by Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, the NRM Secretary General, the rallies that were slated for Monday, October 6, 2025, in Kole, Lira, and Lira City have been called off.
Mr. Todwong explained that the postponement was necessitated by the President’s “need to attend to critical state duties on the set day,” though he did not disclose the nature of those duties.
Addressing the matter, Todwong urged NRM supporters and flagbearers in the region to remain calm and patient, acknowledging the disruption but emphasizing its necessity.
“We pray that our supporters and flagbearers can understand that our national chairman and presidential candidate is also the president of this country and he had a prior arrangement on Monday and he has to take a day off,” Todwong said.
He admitted that the postponement might cause “a little inconvenience on Monday”, but reiterated that the decision was unavoidable, given the President’s dual responsibilities.
The adjustment in the campaign schedule comes as President Museveni continues to juggle the demands of national leadership with the intense pace of his re-election campaign, which kicked off in late September.
Party officials say new dates for the postponed rallies will be communicated once the President’s calendar allows.
