Police in Mukono District have arrested a 22-year-old man suspected to be part of an organized criminal gang that staged an armed robbery along the Jinja–Kampala highway on the night of October 25, 2025.
According to police, the gang ambushed travellers at Kiwanga Zone in Goma Division around 10:31 p.m., attacking and robbing people using pangas and other weapons.
Police said officers from Namanve Police Station responded swiftly to the distress call and mounted an operation to intercept the gang.
“Upon arrival, our officers found over ten suspects hiding along the roadside. When they attempted to flee, the police, with help from community members, pursued them,” police statement reads
During the chase, one suspect identified as Angolo Abdul, aged 22, was apprehended after being disabled by police.
“The suspect is currently in custody, and his file is being processed. The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) will advise on the appropriate charges,”
Police have intensified patrols along the busy highway to prevent similar criminal activities and assured the public of continued efforts to keep travellers safe.
