Police in Kampala have arrested two suspects in connection with a spate of vehicle parts thefts following an intelligence-led operation targeting notorious crime spots along Jinja Road.
The two-day operation, conducted on October 23 and 24 by officers from Jinja Road Police Division, followed several complaints from motorists about the rising cases of stolen car accessories such as side mirrors, grills, baby mirrors, and lamps.
According to ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, the operation focused on Wampewo, Punjan, and the former Electoral Commission stretch, areas that had become hotspots for phone snatching, bag theft, and stealing from vehicles.
“This operation is part of our ongoing efforts to curb theft from motor vehicles in the city,” Owoyesigyire said.
“Among those arrested is one suspected to be a key promoter of the criminal network behind these thefts.”
During the operation, police recovered several stolen vehicle parts, including grills for Toyota Harriers, side mirrors, lamps, and other accessories, most of which were traced to Kiseka.
Owoyesigyire said the crackdown is ongoing as part of wider efforts to dismantle organized criminal rings targeting motorists in the city.
“The operation is still ongoing and more details will be provided in due course,” he added.
Police have urged motorists to remain alert and report suspicious activity, assuring the public of continued operations to make Kampala safer for road users.
