The Uganda Police have released security and traffic guidelines to ensure peace and order during the nomination of parliamentary candidates, which will take place on October 22 and 23, 2025, at Electoral Commission (EC) centres across the country.
According to police, access to nomination centres will be restricted to candidates and invited persons in order to control crowds and maintain safety. “Access to nomination centres is restricted to invited persons and candidates to control the number of attendees,” the statement read.
Police also announced traffic regulations around nomination venues to ease movement and avoid congestion. “Traffic routes to and from the nomination venues will be regulated to ensure smooth flow and avoid congestion,” the security agencies said.
Candidates’ convoys will also be limited in size and movement. “According to the Electoral Commission regulations, each candidate’s convoy must not exceed two vehicles, with no more than 10 occupants per vehicle. Candidates are not allowed to hold processions,” police emphasized.
Authorities further reminded the public that election, public order, and traffic laws remain in force during the nomination period. “Citizens’ rights and peace should not be disrupted by nomination activities or related activities,” police cautioned.
Candidates planning to hold post-nomination rallies were urged to coordinate with area police commanders to agree on venues. “Nominees should avoid holding rallies in locations such as markets, near schools, or hospitals to prevent disruption of businesses and traffic,” the statement added.
Police appealed for cooperation from all Ugandans. “All Ugandans are urged to promote peace and harmony throughout the nomination period,” they said.
