President Museveni, has honoured the memory of the late Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, the former Prime Minister of Kenya, praising him as a liberation figure and a steadfast advocate of Pan-African ideals.
In his condolence message, President Museveni said he received the news of Odinga’s passing “with a lot of sadness,” noting that the Kenyan opposition icon was more than a career politician.
He likened Raila’s legacy to that of his father, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, Kenya’s first Vice-President, both of whom he said stood firmly for liberation and African unity.
“Rt. Hon Odinga has not been just a career politician. He has been a freedom fighter, in the tradition of his late father,” Museveni said, emphasizing their long-shared ideological alignment. He recalled engaging with both men on the future of Africa and praised Odinga’s consistent support for regional integration.
“Ideologically speaking, they have been with the patriotic and Pan-Africanist orientation… always supporting the struggles for the realization of our dream for the East African Federation,” he added.
President Museveni expressed regret that Odinga died at a time when Africa still needs strong voices advocating for unity and integration. He urged the younger generation to rise and take forward the mission championed by leaders like Odinga.
“It is important for the young people to fill the void left by such historical fighters for Africa’s future,” he said.
He concluded by extending condolences to Kenyan President William Ruto, the people of Kenya, and Odinga’s family, praying for his soul to rest in eternal peace.
