The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has issued a traffic advisory ahead of the highly anticipated Kampala City Festival, scheduled for today, Sunday, 12th October 2025.
The festival is expected to attract thousands of revelers, and authorities have put in place measures to ensure order, safety, and smooth traffic flow throughout the celebrations.
According to the guidelines issued, traffic diversions will begin as early as 6:00 am and will remain in effect until midnight.
A major security checkpoint will be mounted at Hotel Africana, where most motorists will be denied access and diverted through Jinja Road to access Kololo via Lugogo Bypass.
KCCA confirmed that there will be a procession of floats starting from Watoto Church, moving through Kampala Road, Jinja Road traffic lights, and Wampewo Roundabout, before proceeding to Kololo Independence Grounds, which will serve as the main festival venue.
To maintain controlled access to Kololo, a cut-off point will be established at Upper and Lower Elgon Terrace, where only vehicles with accredited stickers will be allowed into the VIP parking area.
Another restriction point will be at Kati Kati traffic lights, stopping vehicles from accessing the Upper Kololo Road.
Additional cut-off points will be mounted at Prince Charles Drive and Mabua Road, restricting motorists from using Acacia Avenue towards Upper Kololo Road.
Parking arrangements have also been clearly designated. VVIPs and VIPs will access parking inside the main venue through Lower Elgon Terrace and the Kololo Police Post gate.
Ordinary festival attendees will park at City High School, Hotel Africana, and Kabojja Junior School.
KCCA has issued a stern warning against parking along road reserves, noting that any vehicle found abandoned or parked illegally will be towed to the nearest police station at the owner’s cost.
Additionally, boda-bodas will not be allowed beyond any of the designated cut-off points for security and crowd control purposes.
KCCA encouraged residents and visitors to come out in large numbers to celebrate Kampala’s culture, innovation, and sustainability, promising a vibrant and well-organized festival experience.
