Thirty suspects, including a District Inspector of Schools, head teachers, and teachers from several districts, have appeared before the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Mengo over alleged involvement in examination malpractice during the 2025 Primary Leaving Examination (PLE).
The suspects, who come from Kampala, Wakiso, Kassanda, Mubende, Mukono, Masaka, Luwero, and Mityana districts, are accused of cutting UNEB examination materials delivered to examination centres, taking pictures of the papers, and sharing them online.
Eight of the suspects, including the District Inspector of Schools, were remanded until November 26th, when they are expected to reappear before the court.
On November 13th, nine others appeared in court, with three pleading guilty.
Those who pleaded guilty will be sentenced on November 26th, while the remaining six will appear for bail applications.
Jennifer Kalule-Musamba, Principal Public Relations Officer at UNEB, warned that the examination body takes malpractice seriously.
“Any person found aiding, abetting, or facilitating examination offences will face the full force of the law. UNEB is committed to ensuring the integrity of our examinations,” she said.
Under Section 36 of the UNEB Act, CAP 259, anyone who assists or incites another to commit an examination offence is liable to punishment prescribed under the law.
