The Electoral Commission (EC) has embarked on a massive nationwide recruitment exercise to identify 35,734 qualified and competent individuals who will operate the newly imported biometric voter verification machines during the 2026 General Election.

The move follows the arrival of the new machines, which the Commission says will play a critical role in strengthening voter identification, curbing electoral fraud, and enhancing transparency in the voting process. The biometric devices will be deployed at all polling stations across the country.

According to the EC, successful applicants must demonstrate adequate technical skills, integrity, and the ability to manage voter verification processes efficiently on polling day.

The Commission is also expected to conduct training sessions to ensure operators are fully equipped to handle the machines and address any challenges that may arise.

The introduction of biometric voter verification has been widely welcomed by election observers and civil society groups, who view it as a step toward boosting public confidence in the integrity of the upcoming elections.

The 2026 General Election is expected to be one of Uganda’s most competitive yet, and the EC says the deployment of well-trained personnel is key to ensuring a smooth and credible electoral process.
