Heavy Rains Wreck Karuma–Kamdini Road Section

Traffic flow along the Karuma–Kamdini section of the Gulu Highway has been disrupted after part of the road collapsed near the Karuma–Olwiyo/Pakwach junction, forcing authorities to introduce emergency safety controls and diversions.

According to the Ministry of Works and Transport, the affected section gave way following heavy rains that weakened the embankment near the URA checkpoint on the Kampala side.

Engineers have since cordoned off the damaged portion, with traffic restricted to a single lane as restoration works are being prepared.

Motorists using the route are required to slow down, follow traffic instructions, and exercise maximum caution as repairs progress.

The ministry has also introduced a diversion for heavy trucks and trailers. Long–haul drivers are now directed to branch off at the Karuma–Pakwach junction near the URA checkpoint, continue to Olwiyo Trading Centre—about 51 kilometres from Karuma—and then connect through Anaka before rejoining the route to Gulu, approximately 62 kilometres farther.

The ministry says it is working to restore the damaged road section as quickly as possible to minimise disruption along the busy northern corridor.
