NIC General Insurance has unveiled a landmark USD 2 million (approximately UGX 7.28 billion) sponsorship package to support the She Cranes as Uganda’s national netball team intensifies preparations for the upcoming Celtic Netball Cup. The prestigious tournament will run from 26th to 30th November 2025 at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow, Scotland.

The major announcement was made in Kampala by the NIC General Insurance Managing Director, Mr. Edu Elias, who described the sponsorship as a reaffirmation of the company’s commitment to fostering sports excellence and elevating Uganda’s global sports presence. The package will cater for the entire squad and the technical team traveling for the championship.

During the handover ceremony, Mr. Elias emphasized that NIC General’s investment in the She Cranes goes beyond financial support, noting that the gesture mirrors the company’s holistic mission to contribute to national development.

“Our partnership with the She Cranes is not just an investment in sport, but an investment in Uganda’s youth, talent, and international competitiveness. We are proud to stand with the team as they prepare to raise our flag in Scotland,” he said.

The package will cover welfare, travel costs, insurance, and high-performance preparation for both players and officials. NIC General further highlighted that supporting women in sports remains a core part of its corporate social responsibility, especially at a time when the She Cranes continue to rise as a formidable force in world netball.

Officials from the Uganda Netball Federation described the sponsorship as timely and transformative.

“This support from NIC General Insurance comes at the perfect time. It boosts the players’ confidence and strengthens our preparations for a tournament of this magnitude,” said Federation Secretary General, Aminah Mande.

With the final squad already unveiled, the She Cranes are expected to depart for Scotland in the coming days. Captain Racheal Nanyonga said the insurance component of the sponsorship gives the team peace of mind as they enter an extremely competitive championship.

“She Cranes are ready to go and proudly represent Uganda. Should any of us fall sick or encounter accidents, this support will ensure we receive the necessary medical care, especially since the hospitals we will be accessing are often very expensive. We have many officials and players traveling, so this sponsorship gives us great confidence and peace of mind,” she explained.

The Celtic Netball Cup will see Uganda face top-ranked teams in a tournament that has increasingly become a proving ground for rising netball nations.

For the She Cranes, NIC General Insurance’s support strengthens their campaign at a time when global visibility and competitive performance are crucial to sustaining their upward trajectory.

NIC General Insurance reiterated that it will continue supporting sports development,
youth empowerment, and community transformation as part of its long-term national impact agenda.
