A joint security team comprising police, UPDF soldiers, and local vigilantes has arrested two men in Kireka Biira for possessing a brand new sharp panga during a late-night patrol.
According to SSP Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) spokesperson, the suspects, Jovan Lumu and motorcycle rider Mawanda Nicholas Kasozi — were apprehended in the early hours of November 5, 2025, near Oilcom Petrol Station.
“The joint patrol team arrested Lumu Jovan at around 2:00 a.m. after finding a brand new sharp panga in his possession. He later revealed that he had been transported together with two others by a boda boda rider, identified as Mawanda Nicholas Kasozi, from Nansana to Kireka Biira,” SSP Onyango said.
He explained that the motorcycle, registration number UMA 201DQ, had developed a flat tire, forcing the rider to leave temporarily for repairs — a move that later led to his arrest.
“The patrollers traced and arrested the rider, Mawanda, and recovered the motorcycle, which together with the panga has been kept as exhibits at Bulenga Police Station,” Onyango added.
Both suspects are currently detained at Bulenga Police Station, facing charges of possession of a dangerous weapon.
Onyango said investigations are underway to identify and track down the other suspects who fled the scene.
“Further interrogation is ongoing to establish the identities and whereabouts of the other members of the group,” he noted.
Police have since intensified night patrols in the area amid growing concerns over criminal gangs using sharp weapons to terrorize residents.
