Police has intensified operations targeting criminal hideouts, resulting in the arrest of 136 suspects across the city and surrounding districts over the past week.

According to Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Spokesperson for the Kampala Metropolitan Police, the operations focused on “dismantling criminal hideouts, restoring public order, and ensuring the safety of residents across the region.”

In Mukono District, coordinated raids in Goma, Nama, Central, and Nakisunga areas led to the arrest of 61 suspects. Owoyesigyire noted, “All the suspects were arrested from known black spots where criminals gather to engage in unlawful activities. Several exhibits of suspected narcotic substances were recovered, and the suspects were arraigned in court last week.”

Operations in Kira Division also yielded results, with three suspects arrested in Kiyinda Zone from a home reportedly selling and consuming narcotics. Police recovered 11 bundles of rolled substances suspected to be narcotics. “The suspects are detained pending prosecution,” Owoyesigyire added.

In Nansana Division, under Wamala Police Post, eight suspects were arrested in Wamala Kasumba, Karanzi, Kinyarwanda, and Tabba sub-zones for possession of suspected narcotic substances. Similarly, Jinja Road Police Division conducted operations in Thailand, Katogo, and Kago areas of Kinawataka, apprehending 16 suspects involved in criminal activities, including possession of narcotics and public nuisance offenses.

Old Kampala Division also recorded significant arrests. Two separate operations in Nakulabye and Kisenyi led to 48 suspects being apprehended, alongside the recovery of suspected narcotics and dangerous weapons.

Owoyesigyire emphasized the role of community engagement in these efforts, stating, “As part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation between the Police and the public, we have conducted community engagement activities across Kampala Metropolitan Area. These meetings focus on improving vigilance, addressing family-related conflicts, identifying dark spots, and fostering collaboration between security agencies and the community.”

Notable engagements included a major meeting in Nansana on 30th October 2025, chaired by Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander CP Ecega Richard, and a community policing drive in Bulabira–Kalitunsi, Najjera, on 29th October 2025, which focused on neighborhood watch, domestic violence prevention, and timely information sharing.

Owoyesigyire added: “The Kampala Metropolitan Police leadership commends the cooperation of the public, local leaders, and sister security agencies in these successful operations. We remain committed to maintaining peace and security through proactive enforcement and strong community partnerships.”
