SanlamAllianz Uganda has introduced a new personal accident insurance product, On-The-Go Accident Cover, aimed at providing affordable and accessible protection for road users across the country.
The launch event was attended by Ruth Namuli, CEO of SanlamAllianz General Insurance, Dr. Sam Stewart Mutabazi, Executive Director of the Uganda Road Sector Support Initiative, and Steven Kaddu Mukasa, representing the Insurance Regulatory Authority of Uganda.
The product, which is accessed via a mobile application, allows customers to digitally purchase insurance and access services, making it Uganda’s first trip-based personal accident insurance specifically designed for local road travelers.
Speaking at the launch, Ruth Namuli emphasized the importance of innovation in everyday life:
“We start with the values that we have in terms of innovation. It is critical for us to be able to give back to the community with products that are for our day-to-day lives, and this is what it’s all about.”
Namuli added that the insurance is designed for a wide range of road users, including boda-bodas, ride-hailing services, buses, taxis, private cars, and motorcycles up to 750cc.
“Each day millions of Ugandans travel by road and most do so without any form of accident cover. The On-the-Go Accident Cover is simple, affordable, and accessible right from your smartphone,” she said.
Priced at less than one dollar (from UGX 1,300) per trip, the cover provides compensation for accidental medical expenses, disability, funeral costs, or loss of life occurring during the insured journey.
Dr. Sam Stewart Mutabazi of the Uganda Road Sector Support Initiative praised the initiative, noting the importance of safeguarding travelers:
“This innovation is a solution to a situation that is escalating in the country. It ensures that whether you are traveling by boda-boda, bus, or taxi, you are protected against accidents and unforeseen events.”
Representing the Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA), Steven Kaddu Mukasa assured the public of the product’s reliability:
“This launch demonstrates the company’s dedication to a broader goal we all share—providing financial security and promoting inclusiveness to enhance resilience among individuals and families. You can have confidence in this product because it has undergone all due diligence to ensure it offers real value and complies with all regulatory standards.”
The product allows users to get insured instantly via a mobile app, making insurance accessible for everyday travel. SanlamAllianz says the On-The-Go Accident Cover represents a milestone in its mission to make insurance affordable, practical, and inclusive for every Ugandan on the move.
“It’s less than the price of a Rolex, but it can cover you for accidents, permanent disability, funeral expenses, and medical attention,” Namuli added.
With road accidents remaining a pressing concern in Uganda, the new On-The-Go Accident Cover is expected to provide peace of mind and financial protection for travelers across the country.
