The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has rolled out a fresh recruitment drive targeting 600 Local Defence Personnel (LDPs) from six districts in Western Uganda, beginning November 10, 2025.

The announcement was made by Maj. Gen. Felix Kulayigye, the Director of Defence Public Information, who confirmed that each of the selected districts — Kabarole, Kamwenge, Bunyangabo, Kasese, Bundibugyo, and Ntoroko — will contribute 100 recruits.

“The UPDF leadership calls upon all eligible candidates to take advantage of this opportunity to serve in the UPDF and wishes those who will succeed in this exercise good luck in their military careers, where Patriotism, nationalism, and Pan-Africanism are the basis of our service to all,” Maj. Gen. Kulayigye said in a statement.

As part of the eligibility criteria, applicants must be Ugandan nationals with valid National Identity Cards and must be physically and medically fit. The accepted age range is 18–25 years, and candidates are required to hold at least a Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or its equivalent.

In addition, each applicant must submit a handwritten application letter signed by local leaders — including the LCI, LCII, and LCIII chairpersons as well as the GISO or DISO. Candidates must be permanent residents of their districts and free of any criminal record. Kulayigye cautioned that individuals presenting forged documents will face prosecution.

Recruitment will follow this schedule:

10 November 2025 – Kabarole (Boma Grounds)
11 November 2025 – Kamwenge (District Headquarters)
12 November 2025 – Bunyangabo (District Headquarters)
13 November 2025 – Kasese (District Headquarters)
14 November 2025 – Bundibugyo (District Headquarters)
15 November 2025 – Ntoroko (District Headquarters)
Successful applicants are to present themselves at their respective venues with the necessary documentation for physical and medical screening. Those who pass the selection process will be taken to the UPDF training school to begin their military preparation.

Kulayigye noted that the initiative opens a path for young Ugandans to serve their nation while pursuing a long-term career in the armed forces.
