The Director of Criminal Investigations at the Uganda Police Force, AIGP Tom Magambo, has strongly rejected claims circulating on social media that seek to associate him with the domestic dispute involving Professor Badru Katerega and his wife.
In a statement released after a WhatsApp message began circulating widely, AIGP Magambo said the allegations are entirely false and aimed at dragging his name into a matter that falls outside the mandate of the Criminal Investigations Directorate.
“The Director of CID, Uganda Police Force, has been made aware of a WhatsApp message circulating on various platforms, which falsely links my name to the ongoing family wrangles between Professor Katerega and his wife,” Magambo said.
He pointed out that the Uganda Police Force had already guided the public on the matter, clarifying that the dispute is civil and should be addressed through lawful civil processes.
“As the public may recall, the Police Public Relations Officer addressed the nation on this matter and clearly advised that the dispute is a civil one, best handled through appropriate civil channels. As the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, we have no mandate or powers to intervene in such a matter,” he noted.
AIGP Magambo further dismissed any personal connection to the individuals involved, saying he has never met either Professor Katerega or his spouse.
“For the record, I have never, at any time in my life, personally met Professor Katerega or his wife. Any insinuations by diversionary forces suggesting that we are known to each other are false, misleading, and should be treated with the contempt they deserve,” he said.
He called on the public to ignore the misleading claims and focus on issues that contribute to national progress.
“I urge all well-meaning citizens to disregard these claims and remain focused on our shared responsibility of building our motherland, Uganda,” Magambo added.
The police leadership has continued to caution against the spread of unverified information, warning that such content can distort facts and undermine public confidence in state institutions.
