President Museveni has urged citizens to hold leaders accountable and called for a possible revisit of the right of recall, emphasizing the fight against corruption and the importance of responsible leadership.
Speaking at his rallies in Mpigi on Monday, Museveni said he met some of his bazzukulu on the way to the district, who raised concerns about medicine shortages in hospitals and PDM funds not reaching communities.
“On my way to Mpigi, I met some of my bazzukulu who raised concerns about medicine shortages in hospitals and PDM money not reaching them. Corruption is not new; even during colonial times some abaami abused authority. That is why we deliberately returned power to the people through elected leaders from LC1 up to Parliament. Government mobilises and allocates resources, but protecting them is the responsibility of all of us through accountable leadership,” he said.
The President reminded residents that in the NRC days, local leaders were elected and directly answerable to the people. He suggested that revisiting the right of recall could strengthen accountability.
“We may need to revisit the right of recall so wananchi can hold leaders accountable. Let us work together, using credible evidence, to defeat corruption,” Museveni said.
The President’s remarks came amid ongoing concerns over service delivery in Mpigi, highlighting the need for active citizen participation and oversight in governance.
He was accompanied by mama Janet Museveni who urged Mpigi constituents to vote for NRM for steady peace and development of this country.
