The Uganda Police Force has assured the public that it will take firm action against any officers who engage in misconduct during the ongoing campaign season.
Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke said the institution is tightening internal oversight to ensure that law enforcers do not misuse their authority while managing political activities.
“Our personnel are reminded to always exercise their powers within lawful and acceptable limits,” Rusoke said, noting that any deviation will attract consequences.
He stressed that the force is committed to accountability and transparency.
“Any actions found to be inconsistent with agreed standards of behaviour will be investigated, and appropriate action should be taken against any officer found responsible,” he emphasized.
Rusoke added that while the Police continue to enforce order, political actors must also act responsibly.
“We reiterate our call to all candidates and their supporters to exercise calm, avoid inflammatory statements, and cooperate with security and other stakeholders to ensure peaceful campaign activities,” he said.
He further warned that the absence of cooperation between the public and security agencies could endanger the stability of the electoral process.
“When communication and cooperation break down, we risk losing the peace and mutual respect that all of us deserve,” Rusoke cautioned.
Hw urged all parties to focus on dialogue and peaceful engagement as the campaigns progress.
