Security agencies have rescued a six-year-old boy who was allegedly kidnapped by a shamba boy in Kampala and later hidden in Wakiso District, police have confirmed.
The child, Abraham Mpirwe Tumwesigye, was reportedly taken on 12 December 2025 from Ddungu Zone, Kawempe Division, Kampala. He was safely recovered on 19 December 2025 from Busukuma, Nansana Municipality, Wakiso District, following intelligence-led operations.
Addressing the incident, Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Racheal Kawala said the case was reported immediately, enabling police to act swiftly.
“Security agencies have successfully recovered six-year-old Mpirwe Tumwesigye, who was allegedly kidnapped on 12 December 2025 by a shamba boy,” SP Kawala said.
Police investigations indicate that the suspect, David Muchunguzi, who was employed as a shamba boy by Dr. Emmanuel Tumwesigye, left home with the child at around 4:00 p.m. and failed to return.
“Preliminary findings show that the suspect left with the victim to an unknown destination, prompting the family to report a case of kidnapping at Universal Police Post,” Kawala explained.
She noted that coordinated search operations were launched immediately, with detectives using digital intelligence to track the suspect’s movements.
“Through analysis of the suspect’s TikTok videos, security agencies were able to trace and successfully recover the child,” SP Kawala said.
Police said the boy will undergo a medical examination before being reunited with his parents, as efforts to arrest the suspect continue.
“We are still pursuing the suspect, and once investigations are complete, more details will be communicated,” Kawala added.
The police have urged the public to remain vigilant and to promptly report suspicious behaviour, especially involving children.
