Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has cautioned voters against lingering at polling stations after casting their votes, warning that any attempts to disrupt the electoral process will be dealt with firmly.

His warning comes as NUP presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine, rallies voters to remain at polling stations after casting their ballots in order to safeguard their votes.

Speaking at the Ministry of Defence Headquarters in Mbuya during the pipings of promoted senior officers, Gen. Muhoozi addressed concerns over campaigns encouraging voters to remain at polling stations.

“We strongly urge all political actors during this electoral season to abide by the Electoral Commission guidelines and cooperate fully with security forces for the safety of all,” he said.

“We appeal to citizens to cast their votes peacefully and go home, not hang around polling stations.”

Muhoozi also warned those plotting to cause trouble that the army shall deal with them accordingly.

“Those who try to cause trouble, as I’ve heard, some people proclaim, will be dealt with swiftly and with all the tools at our disposal and in accordance with the law.”

He also reassured the public that measures are in place to guarantee a transparent and credible election.

“There’ll be enough scrutiny (agents, media, observers) to ensure the election process is transparent, and credible,” he emphasized.

Recently, the Electoral Commission issued guidelines for the 2026 general elections, urging voters to cast their mandate and leave polling stations promptly.
