The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has reassured taxpayers of uninterrupted service delivery during the upcoming Presidential and Parliamentary elections, while urging them to file and pay their monthly taxes by January 12, 2026, to avoid last-minute challenges.
In a public notice issued on Tuesday, January 6, URA management said the early filing advisory is aimed at safeguarding taxpayers from penalties and interest that may arise from delays during the election period.
“Due to the upcoming Presidential and Parliamentary elections slated for 15th January 2026, all eligible taxpayers are encouraged to file their monthly Value Added Tax (VAT), Pay As You Earn (PAYE), Withholding Tax (WHT), Local Excise Duty (LED) and Gaming and Pool Betting Tax (GPBT) returns and make the corresponding payments by 12th January 2026,” URA management stated.
The tax authority emphasized that timely compliance is in the best interest of taxpayers. “Timely compliance will help taxpayers avoid penalties and interest arising from late filing and payment of taxes,” the notice reads.
URA further moved to allay fears of service disruptions during the election period, confirming that taxpayer support services will continue without interruption.
“URA Service Centers and the Contact Centre will remain fully operational to provide support,” management said.
The Authority encouraged taxpayers to seek assistance through its official communication channels, including services@ura.go.ug, toll-free lines 0800 117000 and 0800 217000, toll lines 0417 444602 and 0417 444603, as well as WhatsApp 0772 140000.
The advisory takes effect immediately and applies to all taxpayers with monthly filing obligations, as URA positions itself to maintain revenue administration and taxpayer support throughout the election period.
