Security agencies have arrested five suspects in connection with a string of aggravated robberies in the Kampala Metropolitan Policing (KMP) area, including the murder of the Officer-in-Charge of Ntawo, ASP Bagenda Emmanuel.

The arrests followed an intelligence-led operation conducted in Kiti A Zone, Kirinya Parish, Bweyogerere Division, Wakiso District, between January 24 and 27, 2026.

The suspects were identified as Amutuhairwe Robinson, a discharged former army personnel; Okello Daniel, a guard attached to Fortebet; Kasango Arafat; Luyirika Joseph Innocent; and Alphonse Daniel.

During the operation, police recovered three firearms and three magazines, among other exhibits.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Rachael Kawala said the suspects have admitted to their involvement in the killing of ASP Bagenda Emmanuel.

“Following interrogation, the suspects confessed to their involvement in the murder of ASP Bagenda Emmanuel, the Officer-in-Charge of Ntawo. The incident occurred on November 23, 2025, at about 10:00 a.m. along the Ntawo–Nyenje Road in Mukono District,” Kawala said.

She explained that preliminary investigations indicate that the slain officer was on patrol after receiving intelligence about an armed robbery in the area when he was shot dead.

Kawala added that the same suspects have also confessed to participating in several aggravated robberies, particularly mobile money-related attacks within the Kampala Metropolitan Area.

“The suspects have further confessed to taking part in a series of aggravated robberies, especially targeting mobile money operators across the Kampala Metropolitan Area,” she said.

Police say efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest more suspects believed to be part of the same criminal network.

“We commend our officers for their dedication and professionalism, and we reassure the public that all violent criminal acts will be thoroughly investigated and pursued to their logical conclusion,” Kawala added.

The suspects are expected to be arraigned in court as investigations continue.
