Makerere University has confirmed the dates for its 76th graduation ceremony, putting to rest reports circulating on social media that the event had been postponed.

In a statement shared on X, University Management announced that the graduation will take place as scheduled from 24th to 27th February 2026 at Freedom Square, Makerere University.

“#Mak76thGrad has not been postponed. Dates remain 24th–27th February 2026 at the Freedom Square,” the university said.

The university urged graduands, parents, and members of the public to ignore misleading information and rely only on official communication channels for updates regarding the ceremony.

The four-day event will see thousands of students from various colleges and academic units awarded degrees and diplomas in recognition of their successful completion of studies.

Each day’s session will begin at 8:30am, with Makerere expected to confer 185 PhDs, 2,034 Master’s degrees, 6,043 Bachelor’s degrees, 137 postgraduate diplomas, and 33 specialised postgraduate diplomas.

Makerere also announced that graduation gowns will be issued starting February 2, 2026, at the University Hall dining hall between 9:00am and 4:00pm on weekdays. Graduands will be required to present identification and proof of payment when collecting their gowns.

University officials encouraged all graduating students to finalize their preparations early as the historic institution prepares to celebrate another milestone in its academic calendar.
