President Yoweri Museveni has urged Ugandans to actively monitor government programmes and reject corruption, saying public vigilance is key to ensuring services reach every household.
Speaking on Sunday at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds, Museveni engaged with former NUP members, Muslim supporters, students under the Sauti ya Vijana platform, and members of the Unstoppable group, all of whom pledged their support.
“I urge you to work with us to enforce free education in government schools so that no child is charged illegally. We must also elect leaders who can properly follow up government programmes, including the availability of medicines in hospitals and the implementation of free education,” Museveni said.
He condemned practices undermining public programmes, particularly the selling of jobs at district level and the theft of medicines from hospitals.
“Corruption in all its forms must stop. Reports of jobs being sold at district level and theft of drugs must end,” he said, calling on citizens to demand accountability from local officials.
Museveni also encouraged households to participate in income-generating initiatives under the Parish Development Model (PDM) and other government programmes.
He said Uganda’s economy is on the rise, with a steady growth rate and surplus in most products.
“Uganda is doing well. Our economy is growing steadily, and we now have a surplus in most products,” he said.
By linking citizen action to government efficiency, Museveni stressed that public vigilance, coupled with capable leaders, is essential for turning policies into tangible benefits for Ugandans.
