The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Central Executive Committee (CEC) has endorsed Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among and her deputy, Thomas Tayebwa, to retain their respective positions in the 12th Parliament.
The endorsement, reached during a recent CEC meeting effectively clears the way for the duo to continue leading Parliament when the new House convenes following the general elections.
Anita Among first assumed the role of Speaker in March 2022 after the death of Jacob Oulanyah, becoming the third woman to hold the powerful position.
Thomas Tayebwa was elected Deputy Speaker at the same time, succeeding Anita Among, who had previously served in that role.
The CEC endorsement signals strong party backing for continuity in parliamentary leadership, with NRM sources saying the decision was informed by the duo’s experience, party loyalty, and handling of parliamentary business during the 11th Parliament.
With NRM commanding a majority in Parliament, the endorsement places Among and Tayebwa in a strong position ahead of the election of Speaker and Deputy Speaker at the start of the 12th Parliament.
