Outgoing Ajuri County MP and Government Chief Whip, Denis Hamson Obua, has formally accepted defeat in the 2026-2031 parliamentary race, congratulating his successor and pledging to continue public service outside elective politics.
In a press statement released on Tuesday, Obua acknowledged the results following the rerun of the election, which saw Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) candidate Fred Jalameso win the seat with 16,336 votes, narrowly beating Obua, who garnered 15,568 votes.
“Following the recent declaration of results for the 2026–2031 Ajuri County Parliamentary Election, I concede the declared results,” Obua said.
Obua, who has served as MP for Ajuri County for several terms and held the influential role of Government Chief Whip, thanked his constituents for the trust and support he received over the years.
“I thank the people of Ajuri County for granting me an opportunity to serve them as their Area MP. I have served and made my contribution to the best of my abilities,” he said, reflecting on his tenure.
While stepping away from elective politics, Obua emphasized his commitment to continue serving his country, party, and the people of Northern Uganda.
“For the next five years, I pledge to continue serving my country Uganda, my party NRM, and the people of Northern Uganda and Lango/Ajuri outside elective politics,” he stated.
He also extended congratulations to Jalameso, wishing him success in representing Ajuri County in Parliament.
Obua’s concession marks the end of a closely contested race in a constituency where both NRM and UPC enjoy strong support, underscoring the competitive nature of politics in Northern Uganda.
