Four senior officials of Kotido Municipal Council have been arrested over alleged misappropriation of funds meant for road rehabilitation and maintenance within the municipality.
The suspects have been identified as Emmanuel Okaja (Town Clerk), Gasper Okidi (Senior Civil Engineer), Deo Akello Nyanga (Senior Internal Auditor), and John Bosco Lokure (Assistant Inventory Officer).
According to preliminary investigations by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SH-ACU), in collaboration with police, the officials are accused of embezzling more than UGX 200 million from a UGX 1 billion allocation for municipal road works during the 2024/2025 financial year.
The stolen funds reportedly corresponded to construction materials, including 1,735.7 trips of gravel, 250 bags of cement, 25 trips of hardcore, and 10 trips of sand — materials meant for major road projects across Kotido Municipality.
Authorities also say the Town Clerk and Senior Civil Engineer failed to supervise, monitor, and ensure compliance with approved guidelines for several road projects, including Miresiae–Napawu Road, Morungor–Kotyanga Road, Nangayum–Kawlapei Road, Chairman’s Road, Business Road, and Romrom–Nakutakuwam Road.
The four officials are currently in custody and are expected to be arraigned before court as investigations continue.
