Court has charged human rights lawyer and Center for Constitutional Governance (CCG) Executive Director Sarah Bireete with the unlawful obtaining or disclosure of personal data.
Prosecutors told court that Bireete allegedly accessed and shared National Voters’ Information without authorization from the Electoral Commission. The alleged offences are said to have occurred between January and December 2025 in Kampala, Mukono and Wakiso districts, together with other suspects who are still at large.
Bireete, 49, was arrested last Tuesday after police searched her home, a move later confirmed by the Uganda Police Force. She was presented before court where she denied the charges.
Her application for bail was deferred, and the court remanded her until January 21, 2026, to allow investigations to continue.
