Former National Unity Platform (NUP) parliamentary flag bearer for Busiro East, Mathias Walukaga, has endorsed fellow party member Emmanuel Matovu Magoola to contest for the constituency seat.
Walukaga, who was recently denominated by the party, made the announcement at a press conference where he expressed dissatisfaction with the manner in which the party handled the Busiro East flag bearer selection process. He described his nomination and subsequent denomination as unfair, biased and unconstitutional.
“I was nominated and then denominated in a gesture that was unfair, biased and unconstitutional. Because of that, I cannot rally behind a process that does not reflect the priorities and wishes of the people of Busiro East,” Walukaga said.
He added that after consultations with his supporters and stakeholders in the constituency, he resolved to back Emmanuel Matovu Magoola, whom he described as a leader capable of articulating the concerns of the electorate.
Walukaga urged his supporters and the wider Busiro East community to unite behind Magoola ahead of the 2026 general elections, saying the constituency needs focused leadership that puts people’s interests first.
The endorsement is expected to reshape the political landscape in Busiro East, where competition for the parliamentary seat is already intensifying as parties prepare for the 2026–2031 term.
