Uganda Airlines is set to begin the search for a new Chief Executive Officer, marking a major leadership transition at the national carrier.
This follows an internal email circulated by the current CEO, Jenifer Bamuturaki, in which she informed staff that the airline’s Board will soon advertise the position and invited qualified employees to apply.
“The Board will advertise the position of Chief Executive Officer shortly, and you are all encouraged to apply if you meet the required qualifications,” Bamuturaki wrote in the leaked email.
“The job description and application form will be published on the [Airlines] website,” she added.
Bamuturaki has served as the CEO of Uganda Airlines since July 2022, presiding over a period of expansion that included the growth of regional routes and the strengthening of the carrier’s operational base.
While the airline has not yet issued an official public statement explaining the reason for the recruitment of a new CEO, the internal communication strongly suggests that her term is nearing its end, paving the way for new leadership at the state-owned airline.
The move follows investigations by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and the Anti-Corruption Unit after last year’s turmoil at the airline, which triggered public outrage online over alleged financial and management improprieties.
The Board of Directors is expected to publish the job advert and application details on the airline’s website in the coming days, officially opening the race for the top executive job at the national carrier.
