Independent candidate Mercy Kanyesigye has been elected National Female Youth Member of Parliament for the 2026–2031 term after defeating three contenders in elections held at Hoima City Stadium.
According to results released by the Electoral Commission, Kanyesigye secured 216 votes, beating Ampaire Dianah who polled 198 votes. Muhumuza Julia came third with 24 votes, while Namande Edith Nakayiza managed just one vote.
Out of 440 ballot papers counted, 439 were valid and one was rejected. Ten ballot papers remained unused. A total of 320 men and 120 women took part in the vote.
Kanyesigye is a lawyer and currently serves as Secretary for Legal Affairs at the National Youth Council.
