KAMPALA, Uganda — Lt. Gen. Kayanja Muhanga, Commander of the Land Forces, urged newly promoted generals and senior officers of the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) to maintain discipline, commitment, and hard work to achieve further career advancements.
Muhanga made the remarks during a decoration ceremony at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs headquarters in Mbuya, where five Major Generals, 20 Brigadier Generals, and 60 Colonels received their new ranks.
“Promotions come after dedication, hard work, patriotism, love for what one does, passion for the job, and the effort put in to do your best,” Muhanga said, emphasizing the importance of discipline in the army.
He cautioned that indiscipline, uncontrolled drunkenness, and lack of physical exercise can hinder an officer’s career progression and well-being. Muhanga also commended the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, for his efforts in professionalizing the army.
The ceremony was attended by senior military and ministry officials, including the Under Secretary for Finance and Administration at MODVA, Mrs. Edith Buturo, and the Commander UPDF Air Force, Lt. Gen. Charles Okidi.
Maj. Gen. Steven Mugerwa, Commander of the 1st Division, expressed gratitude on behalf of the newly decorated officers, acknowledging the sacrifices of their spouses and families during deployments and training.
The promoted officers include Maj. Gen. Steven Mugerwa, 1 Division Commander; Maj. Gen. Paul Muhanguzi, 2 Division Commander; Maj. Gen. Felix Busizori, 4 Division Commander; Maj. Gen.
