The National Drug Authority (NDA) has intensified its crackdown on illegal drug operations, shutting down five pharmacies and arresting five individuals in the districts of Soroti, Ngora, Bukedea, Kaberamaido, and Moroto.

During the enforcement operation, NDA officials also impounded more than 200 boxes of assorted medicines valued at over UGX 100 million. The suspects were found running pharmacies without the required practicing licenses.

Confirming the development, NDA said the action is part of its routine surveillance to protect the public from unsafe and substandard medicines.

“Our operation in the districts of Soroti, Ngora, Bukedea, Kaberamaido and Moroto has closed five pharmacies, led to the arrest of five individuals for carrying on the business of a pharmacist without a license, and more than 200 boxes of medicines worth over UGX 100 million have been impounded,” the Authority stated.

The suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to face charges related to unlawful possession and sale of medicines. NDA has since urged the public to be vigilant and only buy medicines from licensed pharmacies and drug shops to safeguard their health.
