Police Bust Major Marijuana Network in Luweero, Hunt for Ringleader

Police in Luweero District have broken up a suspected marijuana cultivation and distribution racket following a highly coordinated intelligence-led operation by the Savannah Region Flying Squad.

The raid, carried out in Kalasa Village, Makulubita Sub-county, targeted a residential house that investigators say was being used as a marijuana drying and packaging center.

According to police, the drugs had been harvested from gardens in Kapeeka before being ferried to Makulubita, where they were prepared for distribution. Officers found several rooms in the house stacked with large quantities of marijuana.

Four suspects were arrested during the operation and are being held at Luweero Police Station, while a female suspect fled the scene. Police say efforts are underway to track her down.

Investigators have also named Titus Kigozi as the suspected mastermind of the network. He remains on the run.

“We have intensified efforts to track and apprehend Kigozi, and operations to dismantle cultivation sites in Kapeeka and Makulubita are ongoing,” said ASP Sam Twiineamazima, the Savannah Regional Police PRO.

The recovered exhibits have since been secured as evidence as inquiries continue.

Police have also appealed for community cooperation in rooting out the drug trade.

“Community support is vital in eradicating drug-related crimes. We call upon residents to report suspicious activities,” Twiineamazima added.

The operation is part of a wider crackdown on illegal drug cultivation and trafficking in central Uganda, with police vowing that more arrests will follow.
