Police in Arua City have taken six individuals into custody for allegedly trafficking counterfeit US dollars and possessing a quantity of marijuana.
While addressing the media at Police headquarters in Naguru, the Police Spokesperson, AKituuma Rusoke, said the arrests followed an intelligence-led operation on 29th August.
“Our officers received credible information about a group dealing in fake US dollars and set up a sting operation. Six individuals were arrested in possession of counterfeit US dollars suspected to be worth $300,000,”Rusoke said.
The suspects—Minike Dudu, Mumbere Asiha, Akwiza Dudu Mitira, Shadrack Kaputara, Jean Pierre Hassan, and Musa Ahmed—are allegedly Congolese nationals. During the operation, police also recovered 12 rolled sticks of marijuana.
“All six suspects are in our custody, and further investigations are ongoing. We will release photos of the exhibits and additional details as they become available,” Rusoke added.
Police have urged the public to report any activity involving counterfeit currency to help curb the circulation of fake money in the region.
