Walukagga Picked Over Sseggona as NUP Denies Tickets to Key Party Figures

In a surprising turn of events, the National Unity Platform (NUP) has denied parliamentary tickets to three well-known Central Region contenders ahead of the 2026 general elections.

Medard Lubega Sseggona, Allan Ssewanyana, Joyce Bagala, Bashir Kazibwe and Aloysious Mukasa were all excluded from the party’s list of flag bearers.

Notably, Mathias Walukagga was selected over Sseggona to contest the Busiro East parliamentary seat, a choice that has raised eyebrows among political observers and supporters.

The exclusion of Sseggona, Ssewanyana, and Bagala has generated mixed reactions among party supporters, with some expressing disappointment while others view the move as an opportunity for fresh leadership to emerge.

With Mathias Walukagga now endorsed as the party’s flag bearer for Busiro East, the spotlight is on how he will consolidate support in a constituency where Sseggona had significant grassroots influence.
